Bush or classic garden peonies produce, 2-3' tall and wide, rounded mounds of lobed foliage and 3-6" wide, fluffy, fragrant flowers in shades of red, pink and white. 'Shirley Temple' is named for the famous child star of Hollywood in the 1940s, and produces white, double blooms with a hint of blush pink mid-spring. As the season progresses, the silky flower petals fade to ivory white! Grow in rich, fertile, well-drained soil. Water well after planting, maintaining 1 inch of water, once per week, for the first year. Feed with a slow-release fertilizer like Plant-tone® or Bulb-tone® in spring, as the shoots are emerging. Repeat the feeding midsummer after the plant is done blooming, applying Osmocote® or Bulb-tone® in summer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in fall when necessary.
