A large, deciduous conifer closely related to bald cypress and California redwoods produces an attractive, conical canopy covered in bright to medium green, feathery, soft foliage through the summer, turning copper orange in fall before dropping. Their broad, fluted trunk develops deep fissures with age providing excellent winter interest. Use dawn redwood in open areas, as a street tree or specimen, or near rain gardens. They are tolerant of moist soils to wet, clay soil and air pollution. Plant with perennial Hibiscus, Astilbe, and Ligularia.
