Aka maidenhair tree is an ancient species of typically large deciduous trees that develop distinctive, leathery, two-lobed, bright green leaves that resemble fans. Male tree varieties are most commonly bred and available today to avoid the foul-smelling fruit produced by female ginkgo trees. 'Mariken' is a unique, dwarf, male cultivar with a slightly weeping, spreading form. Leaves mature to a striking golden yellow providing excellent fall interest with the color persisting for several weeks. Tolerant of drought, urban settings, clay and moist soils. An excellent specimen tree for small spaces and containers. Plant ferns, Astilbe, and sedges underneath.
