This is a popular, dense growing Rhododendron variety with large, glossy, dark green foliage and large, rounded clusters of showy lilac-lavender colored flowers with some golden-brown spotting in spring. Additional attributes include good cold hardiness and sturdy habit. Best in partial shade, eastern or northern exposures protected from winter winds. Beautiful used in shady shrub borders or as a single woodland specimen. Plant in well-drained to moist, acidic, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in spring immediately after flowering to control size, and remove stray shoots or damaged limbs anytime. Feed early spring and mid-summer with an acidic slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
