This giant painted fern is like 'Pictum' only on steroids. It forms a massive, arching clump of silvery fronds with green highlights and dark purple stems. Like the Lady Fern, 'Godzilla' spreads slowly where it is happiest, which is in moist, loamy soils. These plants can easily be divided every few years to generate additional plantings. Plant in evenly moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Excellent shade garden color and texture, deer and rabbit resistance. Plant with Bleeding Hearts, Astilbe, and Heuchera.
