Astilbe arendsii x japonica Also known as False Spirea, Astilbe is a staple for any dappled shade border or woodland garden. A great choice for any gardener wanting to achieve color and texture in shady areas where other flowers won't thrive. Younique™ Pink is a compact and free-flowering japonica hybrid variety that produces showy plumes of medium rose pink, fluffy flower spikes in late spring and summer that emerge on slender, upright stems over medium green, fuzzy, fern-like foliage. Good cut or dried flower with deer and rabbit resistance too. Pairs well with Hydrangea, Rhododendron, Hosta, and coral bells. Plant in moist, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter. Water well after planting, and maintain 1 inch of water, once per week, for the first year. Do not let Astilbe dry out. Fertilize in spring and again in summer with a slow release fertilizer following the package instructions. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring every 3-4 years, after cutting back the foliage.
