Fiveleaf Aralia is not a true aralia, although it is in the same family. It is an upright shrub with arching branches that hang over. It has buckeye-like foliage, with a sharp thorn on the stem at each leaf base. Good as a visibility screen or security hedge. Plants are either male or female; females produce small amounts of black fruit if a male plant is present, from inconspicuous green and white flowers. Yellow fall foliage.
