'Cranberry' is an easy to grow, slightly mounding, deciduous shrub with dense, stiffly arching, spreading branches. Small pink flowers are followed by large bright red, cranberry-like berries that persist into winter. This shrub can be used as a salt-tolerant groundcover, attract pollinators or serve as erosion control. Attractive sprawling over rocks in a rock garden or over stone walls. Plant with Roses, Junipers and Creeping Phlox. It prefers average to moist, well-drained soils. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; remove damaged or undesirable branches late winter/early spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multipurpose slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
