Yellow twig dogwood provides four seasons of interest in the landscape. 'Silver and Gold' has green foliage with variegation (silver) with yellow stems in winter (gold). Creamy white flower clusters appear in May. White to cream ornamental fruit form in late summer, and its foliage turns yellow, orange and red in fall, as the brilliant gold stems become more intensely colored as winter comes. This is a rapid growing, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub that works well in shrub borders, rain gardens, on property lines or as erosion control. Plant with Chokeberry, Clethra and Itea. Use this plant in hard to grow places, soggy clay soils and woodland backdrops. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune as needed in late winter or after flowering in spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
