Yellow Buckeye is the largest species native to the US. Buckeye trees produce large clusters of greenish yellow flowers in May that attract pollinators, and later mature into smooth fruit that contain glossy, brown seeds with a tan scar (aka buck's eye). Fall color is yellow-orange. These trees are found in nature in rich soils along slopes and river banks, but prefers moist but well-drained soil. Its taproot makes it difficult to transplant once established.
