Wood's sedge is similar to Pensylvania sedge but is denser and better at suppressing weeds. Blue-green foliage turns green as the season warms. Straw colored flowers emerge in May. Plant in moist soil, tolerates full sun as long as soil is wet, and can grow in 3-4 inches of standing water. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter.
