A continuous and abundant blooming, midsize weigela variety perfect for flowering hedges or a perennial garden backdrop with excellent cold hardiness. This upright, rounded shrub is covered in lush, bright green foliage and topped by bright, lipstick red, trumpet flowers that appear in late spring and continue to bloom in waves through fall. A hummingbird magnet! Weigelas are easy, perfect performers for sunny spaces, in containers, as low hedges, mixed borders, or foundation plantings. They provide three seasons of color and possess good deer resistance planted along with Junipers, ornamental grasses, and deciduous Holly. Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. No deadheading necessary. Prune to remove winter dieback and old wood in spring; do all other pruning immediately after flowering. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. A Proven Winners® variety.
