Virginian Juniper, also called Eastern Red Cedar, grows in forest edges and pastures, in any type of soil except constantly wet soil. Foliage is fine evergeen bluish scale-like needles. Plants are either male of female, with females producing gray to black greenish cones, commonly called juniper berries. 'Canaertii' is more compact, retaining a pyramidal form in early lears, becoming more irregular and open with age. All members of this variety are female with heavy ornamental cone production.
