Turkish Filbert is a pyramidal tree with a short trunk. It produces glossy green leaves that turn unremarkable yellow in fall. The bark is corky and on mature trunks may flake to reveal orange under layers. Trees are either male or female, with male trees producing showy catkins, and the females (if wind pollinated) produce spike fruits containing edible (when roasted) nuts in clusters.
