Staghorn Fern 12" Hanging Plaque

Staghorn Fern 12" Hanging Plaque

Platycerium superbum
A dramatic tropical fern native to Australia that grows as an epiphyte, on another plant for support, collecting moisture and nutrients from the air. Staghorn ferns produce two types of large, peach fuzz covered, dull to medium green fronds. The upright, sterile leaves produce a "crown" that resembles the rack of a male deer. The fertile fronds that produce sporangia hang down below the upper "crown". An excellent specimen plant for humid, warm spaces, such as bright bathrooms, kitchens, and heated sunrooms. Like most ferns, they prefer normal household temperatures and higher humidity levels, but because they do not grow in soil, they will need to be watered regularly, about once a week to every other week. Care Notes: Grow in bright to medium indirect light. Water by submerging the base of the fern or spraying thoroughly with water and letting drain before hanging again. Regularly spray mist to maintain high humidity. Keep out of hot or cold drafts. Fertilize with a liquid plant food, diluted, once a month April-September.
