Hypericum x moseranum Green leaves edge in cream and pink, combined with bright yellow flowers that bloom mid-summer and into fall, create the striking display that is this perennial that is, technically, a shrub. The name 'St. John's Wort' from the story where plants of this genus were gathered and burned to ward off evil spirits on the eve of St. John's Day. 'Tricolor' is a specific variety offering reddish, arching stems and variegated, oval to oblong, rosey-green leaves edged with white. The plant looks its best when planted en masse and in woodland gardens. Plant in average, well-drained soil and water regularly until it is established. It will die back to the ground in the winter. Prune to 6 inches in early spring before new growth appears, and feed with an all-purpose, slow release fertilizer.
