Very easy to grow, snake plants are semi-succulent tropical plants typically possessing long, leathery, lance-shaped leaves that form stiffly upright bundles to shorter bird's nest or open rosette habits. Their foliage is uniquely variegated with various shades of green banding with some varieties developing gold, silver, copper or blue coloring, and cylindrical foliage. 'Fernwood Mikado' is a compact hybrid variety featuring thin, cylindrical, dark green leaves with striking light green striping forming a distinctive, upright, fountain-like habit compared to other snake plants. In northeast Ohio, tropical plants can be grown indoors year-round or can be enjoyed outdoors in the summer and returned inside during the winter.
