Medium deciduous shrub, native to eastern North America, especially moist areas like lowlands, swamps, riverbanks, wetlands, near ponds, and floodplains. Twigs and foliage have silky hairs on the underside, hence the name "silky dogwood". Tiny yellowish flowers appear in flat clusters in late spring or early summer, followed by whiteish fruit that ripens to blue in August. Birds enjoy the fruit.
