Sedge 'Red Rooster' Quart

Carex buchananii

This upright, showy sedge features thin, fine textured foliage with a reddish to copper-bronze to wheat coloration throughout the year. It's best used in sunny containers as a thriller. Combine with sun loving perennial Shasta daisies and Salvia or use as a thriller with Zinnias, Petunias, and fall mums. Plant in moist to well-drained, average to rich soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter. This is a tender perennial, provide winter protection.
