A graceful, native conifer tree that develops an attractive pyramidal form with slightly pendulous branches covered in short, dark, forest green needles with a white band underneath, and small brown cones at the branch tips. This evergreen species is wonderfully shade tolerant. They add year-round interest, can be a used as a specimen tree or as a tall, natural screen in any shady landscape. They are intolerant of heat and drought, and should be kept evenly moist and mulched. 'Sargentii' sometimes called 'Pendula', is a weeping form and much smaller than the species.
