Hibiscus syriacus
A vigorous, refined upright oval shrub covered in large, single, rose pink flowers with a deep red eye from late summer to fall setting few to no seeds. Bold yet delicate, Rose of Sharon are stars in the garden, long blooming pollinator magnets, heat, drought, cold and salt tolerant. Use as hedges, in perennial or shrub borders, as a specimen, and in containers. Plant with Barberry and Junipers for a deer resistant trio. Rose of Sharon prefers average to moist, well-drained soils. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in late winter to early spring as needed to control height. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multipurpose slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect. A Proven Winners® variety.
