This attractive, compact, rounded evergreen possesses large, 2.5 inch, single, tubular, pink blooms with dark reddish spotting in late spring. Its leaves are 5 inch long, narrowly elliptic and glossy, olive green. This variety has good cold hardiness, down to -10 degrees F, and will shed leaves every three years. Tolerance of part shade to full shade areas make this a great choice for shady foundation plantings, borders or hedges with hydrangeas and Clethra. Plant in well-drained, amended, acidic soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune immediately after flowering to control size. Fertilize in early spring, mid-summer, and fall with an acidic fertilizer, according to package directions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
