The world's largest pumpkin variety, this is the grand-daddy of all giant pumpkins, and it's not uncommon for the variety to produce 400-500 pound fruit consistently. It's used mainly for fall fairs and international pumpkin competitions, but it's also perfect for huge jack o' lanterns and fall displays. Fruit colors vary from yellow to orange, and the skin is slightly rough. Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, following label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
