An excellent heat, sun, and dry soil lover, Portulaca is an easy-care annual that produces small, 1" wide, rose-like flowers in rich, jeweled tones over sprawling to trailing, succulent, mossy green to bronze stems and foliage. Happy Trails™ Deep Red features showy, frilly, sunshine yellow-colored flowers with gold eyes from early summer to fall. Perfect for rock gardens and container gardens in hot spots, not to mention around the mailbox. Grow in sunny areas in well-drained, amended soil, or in containers. Feed with a slow-release fertilizer per label instructions. This plant blooms repeatedly, but do trim it as needed to maintain better blooming and a tidy habit. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Flowers will close at night and also when it's cloudy.
