Porcupine Grass 'Strictus' 3 Gallon

Porcupine Grass 'Strictus' 3 Gallon

Miscanthus sinensis

One of the most popular ornamental grass families, Japanese Silver Grass, or Maiden Grass, is identified by its whisk-like inflorescence produced late summer to late fall. Clumps form dense habits that make for an excellent garden specimen, hedge, and for cut or dried flower arrangements. The 'Strictus' variety, also known as Porcupine Grass, offers medium green leaves with yellow banding and takes on a more upright, stiff habit than Zebra grass; hence, the name. After a very long, hot growing season, this grass may produce flowers of pink-copper plumes in early fall. Combine with Perovskia, Rudbeckia and Joe-Pye Weed for a beautiful, sunny landscape border. Plant in well-drained, average to poor soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter. Divide in spring when necessary.
