Ninebark is a fast-growing, tough, upright-rounded family of shrubs with foliage that holds its fantastic color well for three seasons of interest. It also produces exfoliating brown bark in winter, making it a year-round beauty. Pinkish white flowers in spring. Spicy Devil® leaves emerge orange-yellow before maturing to reddish purple. This native is adaptable to most soil conditions and durable in its uses as a natural screen, hedge, foundation plant and pollinator attractant. Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune after blooming. Remove older stems from the base to keep plant attractive. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
