'Yellow Bird' is a variety of showy, deciduous hybrids developed between the native Cucumber Magnolia (M. acuminata) and Chinese Lily Magnolia (M. liliiflora) at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It possesses 3 inch wide, profuse, lovely, light to medium yellow flowers in early spring. Its dark green, elliptical leaves cover an upright, conical to pyramidal habit that produces a single trunked specimen or flowering, medium size, shade tree. Underplant with Hellebores, azaleas, and spring blooming bulbs.
