Ferns are a classic shade plant family with numerous tropical/houseplant varieties. All are excellent as air purifying container plants, beautiful growing in hanging baskets, or displayed in terrariums, a humid bathroom or kitchen. Leatherleaf fern is a tropical, upright to arching species with large, triangular, glossy, dark green, tufted, pinnate fronds. They add fine, long lasting texture to cut flower arrangements, shaded decks, patios, and other outdoor living areas. Or, pair it with traditional shade-loving annuals such as Impatiens and Begonias. This is a tropical fern that grows best in well-drained potting mix. Grow in bright to medium, indirect lighting from an eastern or northern exposure window, or under fluorescent lighting. Prefers cool to average household temperatures, 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray mist regularly and keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with indoor plant fertilizer April-September per package instructions. Grow indoors over winter.
