Slow spreading clump forming upright grass. Forms a 2' x 2' mound of foliage. Pinkish flowers rise high above the foliage in summer and then fade to a straw color as they persist into fall, but can fall apart by early winter. All feather reed grasses are easy to grow, deer and rabbit resistant, and provide threes seasons of interest. Combine with Coreopsis and Russian Sage. Plant in moist to well-drained, average to poor soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
