Juncus Grass 'Blue Arrows' Quart

Juncus Grass 'Blue Arrows' Quart

Juncus inflexus

These warm season, clump-forming grasses possess wiry, green to blue green, stick-straight or twisted foliage. They combine well in mixed container gardens as a ?thriller? or ?filler?. These are cold hardy, perennial grasses that prefer part sun and moist soil, but can grow in any light exposure if its soil stays moist. They grow wonderfully near pond margins and in rain gardens, and will spread by rhizomes and seeds. 'Blue Arrows' produces a stick straight, upright clump of thin and wiry, blue-green reed or rush like foliage. Because it tolerates drought as well as wet conditions, it is versatile when mixed into the landscape with colorful plants or along the water's edge. Pairs well with moisture loving annuals such as Impatiens, Cannas and Caladium. Or pair with rain garden natives like Cardinal Flower Lobelia, Asters, and butterfly weed. Divide in spring as needed. Plant in moist to well-drained, average to rich soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter.
