Acer palmatum atropurpureum
One of the most popular Japanese maple varieties with multiple stems or "clump" trunk producing a dense, rounded canopy covered in rich, bold, burgundy foliage that holds its fantasic color well in summer heat, then turns a spectacular scarlet red in autumn. An ideal, upright specimen for small gardens, near patios and showy year-round interest. Avoid windy, hot, and dry sites. Combine with azaleas, sedges, Astilbe, and ferns.
