Japanese Blood Grass 'Red Baron' 2 Gallon

Japanese Blood Grasses offer short, upright, clumping grass varieties that produce bright green leaves with scarlet red tips about halfway up the foliage. Excellent for sunny, front borders, Asian accent gardens, and in containers, these grasses rarely produce flowers or seed heads like other ornamental grasses. The foliage of the 'Red Baron' variety becomes more and more red as the season progresses, until it glows nearly entirely red in the fall. Divide in spring when necessary. This grass spreads by runners, but not aggressively, and can be controlled by digging to remove parts. Pairs well with annuals and perennial Hibiscus, Echinacea, Rudbeckia, and Catmint. Plant in moist to well-drained, average to rich soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter.
