Hardy Hibiscus 'Starry Starry Night' 3 Gallon

Hardy Hibiscus 'Starry Starry Night' 3 Gallon

Hibiscus moscheutos

Also known as Rose Mallow, Hardy Hibiscus produces a plant 2-5' tall with a rounded, shrubby habit, covered in soft green to bronze colored foliage that provides a boldly textured effect in the landscape. Huge, dinner plate-sized, tropical-looking flowers 8-12" wide bloom vigorously on the plant in late summer (typically starting late July, early August in Northeast Ohio). This makes for an excellent perennial for late summer/early fall color, and for large containers. 'Starry Starry Night' displays pale pink flowers with darker pink speckling and veining, and the foliage is incredibly dark, nearly black, with maple-like leaves. Plant in well-drained to moist, moderate to nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter. Water well after planting, and maintain 1" of water, once per week, for the first year. Apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring or when planting, according to package instructions, and re-apply in summer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Pinch in early June, if you wish to control size. Once blooming, remove spent flowers to prolong blooming. In late fall, cut down to 4".
