The Groundcover Rose class is very low maintenance with a spreading habit, free-flowering, and very good disease resistance. Groundcover roses are perfect for small gardens and combination planters; they brighten borders, fill empty spaces, and spread delicately around established plants. Drift® Roses are one of the most popular series in this class. They are a floriferous cross between full-size groundcover roses and miniatures. From the groundcover roses, they kept toughness, disease resistance, and winter hardiness; from the miniatures, they inherited a well-managed size and repeat-blooming nature. Plant in well-drained, amended soil at least 2-3' apart. Water well after planting, and maintain 1" of water, once per week, for the first year. Prune down to uppermost new growth in early spring. Feed at least three times (full leaf, after first bloom, and in August) during the growing season with a slow-release fertilizer per label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against the extremes of soil temperature. Deadhead and clean around the base of the plant as much as possible. Keep an insect and disease control product geared for roses on hand.
