A large deciduous tree that is either male or female. Male rees are most common in cultivation due to the foul-smelling fruit produced by female ginkgo trees. 'Knollwood' is a cultivar with a broad spreading form. It is grown for its strong central leader. Leaves turn a uniform yellow in fall, and the color persists for several weeks. Tolerant of drought and moist soils.
