True gems in the perennial garden, these plants produce long-blooming, sapphire blue, upward-facing, 2" flowers mid-summer through early fall that mingle with emerald green foliage forming a compact and well-branched habit. The tubular flowers are a charming addition to the sometimes hard-to-find "true blues" in perennials. Protect from afternoon sun during the hottest, most humid part of summer. Combine with Coreopsis and Coneflowers. Plant in a moist but well-drained, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
