Frosty Fern 4"

Frosty Fern 4"

Selaginella kraussiana
Frosty Ferns are often viewed as a holiday houseplant, likely due to their wintry name, but let it be known that these plants aren't technical ferns, at all! This plant is actually an ally to ferns, meaning that though it isn't technically a fern, it behaves like one and reproduces via spores. The 'Frosty' Fern gets its name from the distinctive white color of its new growth, giving its tips a frost appearance. These plants enjoy a good 70% humidity environment, which is higher than the average home, and so placing them in terrariums or providing a simple humidity tray is extremely helpful. Household temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit is fine. Fertilize sparingly, as too much nitrogen will turn the white tips to green. Water frequently to keep the soil moist but never waterlogged and soggy.
