Florist Azalea is a tender, blooming houseplant that offers flowers in abundance for 3-4 weeks. Blooms are 1-2" in diameter and are often double or semi-double in display. Some also feature ruffled petals. The clusters of flowers present on woody stems above dark green, oval leaeves. These plants are not hardy like their outdoor shrub counterparts, and so are most frequently used as a seasonal indoor plant to enhance early spring or Easter celebrations. To make these exquisite blooms last as long as possible, provide bright indirect light and cooler indoor temperatures. Water thoroughly and allow the pot to drain, making sure that the plant isn't left to sit in water. Using distilled water or rainwater is best for florist azaleas. Avoid placing the plant in direct sun or near hot, drying heating vents. Prune off spent flowers to encourage more blooms and to keep the plant looking fresh and tidy.
