False Sunflower 'Sole d'Arancia' 2 Gallon

False Sunflowers ooze cheerfulness with a long season of showy, deep golden yellow to orange daisies atop sturdy, green to burgundy stems and attractive green to red-tinged to purple foliage. Heliopsis are native to Ohio, extremely cold-hardy, make excellent cut flowers, and nectar rich butterfly attractants. 'Sole d'Arancia' offers medium sized, golden orange flowers with soft brown central cones on top of dark stems and clean, compact, green foliage summer through early fall. Heliopsis pairs well with other sun-loving native perennials like Gaillardia, Aster, Coreopsis, Liatris, and Panicum switchgrass. Plant in well-drained, dry to average, poor to nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary. Remove half of the new growth in late May or early June to keep compact and increase flower buds. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming to keep the plant tidy. Keep seed cones up all winter for the birds, cut back in spring to 3-4".
