Rubus idaeus Everbearing. Many wonderful raspberry varieties are available, including this cold hardy, high yielding, adaptable variety. 'Vintage' offers high quality, large, firm, outstanding flavored, bright red berries on self-pollinating, upright canes that do not require staking. Large light pink blooms in spring and summer ripen to two harvests in July (floricane) and September (everbearing, primocane). Berries are excellent for fresh eating, canning, freezing, and making jam. Plant with additional raspberries for better yields in sunny spots, edible gardens, as hedges or borders. Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. For summer harvest, prune in late winter to remove weak, diseased or damaged canes, and thin canes to 6-8" apart. After harvest, summer and/or fall, cut down all canes that bore fruit. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with an acidic plant food. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
