Easy perennials that produce long, slender stalks of multiple lilies late June through July (sometimes into August), each opening for one day. As plants mature, bud and flower count increases. Sometimes affectionately referred to as "ditch lilies" for their ability to tolerate tough exposures (once established) like clay soil, periodically wet areas, street salt, and commercial/city environments where plants may need to perform despite heat, humidity, and drought. Plant in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter. Maintain 1 inch of water, once per week, for the first year to help the plant establish. Fertilize in spring and also midsummer. For best repeat blooming, remove spent flower stems before seed pods form. Divide in spring or fall every 4-6 years.
