Pteris cretica 'Mayii' Ferns are a classic shade plant family with numerous tropical/houseplant varieties. All are excellent as air purifying container plants, beautiful growing in hanging baskets, or displayed in terrariums, a humid bathroom or kitchen. Crested Ribbon or variegated Crested Cretan Brake fern displays showy, forked or trident-like fronds with bold, creamy center stripes on long, narrow, green leaflets with split or crested tips. It also has a compact yet full habit that makes it a showoff in containers. Grow in bright to medium, indirect lighting from an eastern or northern exposure window, or under fluorescent lighting. Prefers cool to average household temperatures, 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray mist regularly and keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with indoor plant fertilizer April-September per package instructions. Grow this tropical fern indoors over winter.
