This coral bell is a staple in any garden or container being one of the first dark leaf varieties and voted Perennial Plant of 1991. Mounding, semi-evergreen, maple leaf like foliage changes from bronze to purple to maroon while white bells hover above on 24" tall stems. Plant in groups in woodland gardens for color and texture. Good in any sun exposure; best in part shade with bleeding hearts, ferns and cranesbills. Plant in well-drained to moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1-inch of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Cut back spent flower stems for a neat appearance. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Apply winter mulch to prevent root heaving. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
