Common Juniper 'Compressa' 3 Gallon

Common Juniper 'Compressa' 3 Gallon

Juniperus communis 'Compressa'

Juniper is a sun-loving, durable evergreen family with numerous varieties, forms and colors. All Junipers provide year round interest, possess excellent deer resistance, and can be grown as topiaries, small hedges, specimen, or in mixed landscape borders and containers. 'Compressa' is a dense, dwarf, pencil-type juniper with silvery blue-green needles that is extremely hardy, easy care, and has a very slow growth rate, averaging 1" per year! This slow grower is perfect for small spaces, rock and miniature gardens, and it makes a fine thriller in containers. Combine with golden Spirea and dark leaf Barberry. Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; shapes itself nicely. Remove dead branches trunk suckers or shear any time. When necessary, prune in spring to early summer. Fertilize in early spring, mid-summer and fall with an acidic fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Wrap pyramidal forms with twine or burlap to protect from winter damage.
