Citrus sinensis Std. indicates this plant has been trained into a standard, single stem tree form with a bushy canopy. These plants produce orange blossoms that create a fresh aroma and develop into a medium-sized fruit with few seeds and a sweet, juicy flavor. Taller than the 'Navel' variety, 'Valencia' produces fruit that becomes edible 18 months after bloom and can typically be harvested spring to fall. Plant in a well-draining potting mix. Grow in full sun, 6+ hours of direct sun per day. Grow outdoors after last spring frost, bring back indoors after 1-2 light frosts in fall. Prefers warm to average household temperatures, 60°-85°F. Keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles over winter. Fertilize with an acidic fertilizer such as Citrus-tone April-September.
