Std. indicates this plant has been trained into a standard, single stem tree form with a bushy canopy. This unique red grapefruit variety is a mutation developed from 'Ruby Red' grapefruit. It's a good choice for Northeast Ohio gardeners for its incredibly fragrant blossoms, ease of growing in a container, and better cold tolerance than most other grapefruit, USDA cold hardiness zones 8B-10B, 15-40 degrees. 'Ray Ruby' produces good yields of medium to large, fruit with thick, blushed yellow skin, and radiating pink at the center to light, then darker red flesh at the edges, hence 'Ray Ruby'. It is juicy and sweet-tart with few seeds. Please be aware that some citrus varieties produce thorns on their branches. Grow in full sun, 6+ hours of direct sun per day. Grow outdoors after last spring frost, bring back indoors after 1-2 light frosts in fall. Prefers warm to average household temperatures, 60°-85°F. Keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles over winter. Fertilize with an acidic fertilizer such as Citrus-tone April-September.
