A low growing native, flowering shrub that produces a tough, tidy mound of glossy green foliage that's perfect for a groundcover or edging. In spring it's covered in hundreds of dainty white flowers, and in fall, the foliage turns brilliant red to contrast with its dark purple-black fruit that the songbirds enjoy. Growing well just about anywhere: in full sun or part shade, wet or dry soils, in hot climates or cold ones, salt tolerant and makes a good erosion control plant. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune as needed in late winter or after blooming in spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Plant with other natives like Cardinal Flower Lobelia, Milkweed and Switch Grasses. A Proven Winners® variety.
