A compact, deciduous plant recognized for bearing dense, fragrant, silver-gray foliage, 'Longwood Blue' offers heavy production of deep purplish blue whirls of flowers late summer and into fall. Shrub-like with woody stems, it boasts blue-gray leaves, which helps the flowers to stand out and attract butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects. This plant blooms late in the growing season when other shrubs are not flowering, which adds to your development of a progressively-blooming garden. Combine with fall mums, grasses, and Rudbeckia. Plant in well-drained, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water, once a week the first year. Use Plant-tone and Iron-tone in spring or at planting; apply Osmocote in summer. Cut to 6 inches in spring to encourage lush new growth. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when necessary. Propagation prohibited.
