Bismarck Palm 17 Inch

Bismarck Palm 17 Inch

Bismarckia nobilis

Bismarck palm is a showy tropical species with very large, distinct, silvery blue-green, palmate fronds that stand up in a spiraled spray as they emerge from their woody trunk. Slow growing and provides a unique color and texture that makes it ideal for containers filled with well-draining potting soil, and it will do well in any sunny spot. Palms are commonly used as floor plants in large living spaces, make excellent "thrillers" in an annual container garden, and can provide shade on a sunny porch or patio over the summer. Combine with other sun-loving tropicals and annuals like Dipladenia, crotons and Lantanas planted at its base. Grow in average household temperatures, 60-80 degrees F. In northeast Ohio, tropical plants can be grown indoors year-round or can be enjoyed outdoors in the summer and returned inside during the winter. Prefers well-drained soil, a 1:1 mix of potting and cactus soil works nicely. Water thoroughly, keeping soil evenly moist to slightly dry between water applications. Supply extra humidity by setting the plant on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Fertilize with a slow-release plant food in spring and midsummer, or apply a palm plant food following label instructions. Palms like to be rootbound; only repot when clearly outgrown its container.
