Bee Balm 'Fireball' 1 Gallon

Bee Balm 'Fireball' 1 Gallon

Monarda hybrida

A compact and vibrant, mildew-resistant variety of Bee Balm, 'Fireball' is a staple in cottage, pollinator, and container gardens with its showy, ruby red, crown-shaped blooms that appear on stocky, square stems over bright green foliage in midsummer. Bee Balm's aromatic flowers and leaves make this hardy perennial very deer resistant and an excellent pollinator attractant. As an Ohio nativar, Bee Balm is easy to grow, adapts to various soil types and conditions. This plant benefits from good spacing in the garden promoting needed air circulation. Combine with other cottage and cutting garden plants like garden phlox, Coreopsis, Echinacea, daylilies, and yarrow. Plant in well-drained to moist, nutrient rich soil amended with compost or planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Apply a slow release fertilizer in spring and again midsummer. Deadhead spent flowers or cut back hard to promote new foliage and reblooming. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring every 3-4 years.
